The official trailer for Immortal has been released, introducing a tense horror-thriller that begins with everyday romance and quickly slides into something far more unsettling. Starring GV Prakash Kumar and Kayadu Lohar, the film is written and directed by Mariyappan Chinna and produced by Arunkumar Dhanasekaran under the AK Film Factory banner. Music is composed by Sam CS. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on 4 September 2026 after receiving a clean U certificate.

A Shared Room That Turns Sinister

The trailer opens with a tribal couple in a foreign land preparing for the arrival of their child before shifting to India. There, Mahi (GV Prakash Kumar) is searching for a room on a sharing basis. He receives a call from Sindhu (Kayadu Lohar), who says she lives alone and is looking for a roommate. Mahi, immediately drawn to her, moves in. He notices that she is both attractive and appears wealthy, and begins to imagine a future with her.

What starts as a convenient living arrangement and budding attraction soon takes a dark turn. A series of disturbing events leave Mahi shaken. Sindhu, meanwhile, seems to know more about the strange happenings inside the flat than she initially lets on. The trailer carefully balances light, almost playful early moments with growing unease, hinting at supernatural or psychological horror without revealing the full nature of the threat.

Earlier promotional material had already suggested a shift from romantic banter to something more menacing, including nocturnal disturbances and creature-like imagery. The full trailer builds on that foundation, positioning the shared living space as both a site of desire and danger.

A Cast Anchored by Strong Leads

The film relies on the chemistry and contrasting energies of its two leads:

ActorRole / Contribution
GV Prakash KumarMahi – young man searching for a roommate who becomes entangled in something darker
Kayadu LoharSindhu – the enigmatic woman living alone who draws Mahi in
TM KarthikSupporting role
Kumar NatarajanSupporting role
Lollu Sabha MaaranSupporting role
Aaditya KathirSupporting role
Arshu Maharjan, Pema Tsamchoe, Sunita Shrestha and othersEnsemble adding further layers to the world

GV Prakash continues to expand his range as an actor while remaining closely associated with music. Kayadu Lohar, whose screen presence has grown steadily, brings an intriguing mix of allure and mystery to Sindhu. The supporting cast fills out the environment around the central pair, grounding the story in both everyday and escalating supernatural tension.

Music and Craft

Sam CS’s score is already drawing attention in the trailer. The music shifts effectively from lighter, romantic textures to more ominous and atmospheric passages, supporting the film’s tonal transition. Cinematography by Arun Radhakrishnan and editing by Rajesh M appear focused on creating a sense of confined space and mounting dread within the flat. The technical team includes strong contributions in art direction, stunt work, visual effects, and sound design, all of which will be crucial for a horror-thriller of this nature.

Director Mariyappan Chinna, working from his own screenplay, seems intent on blending romance, mystery, and horror. The decision to open the trailer with a distant tribal sequence before moving into the urban shared-room setup suggests a story that may connect personal obsession or attraction with larger, older forces.

Growing Anticipation

The trailer was unveiled by actor-producer Dhanush, adding further visibility. Audience reactions have focused on the GV Prakash–Kayadu Lohar pairing, the effective use of music, and the clear genre shift from light beginnings to darker territory. Some viewers have drawn comparisons to stories of intense attraction that turn dangerous, while others highlight the film’s experimental edge within GV Prakash’s filmography.

Immortal arrives at a time when Tamil cinema continues to explore horror and thriller formats with varying degrees of psychological and supernatural emphasis. By rooting the horror in a seemingly ordinary shared living situation, the film aims for a more intimate form of dread rather than relying solely on large-scale set pieces.

September 4 in Theatres

Immortal is set for a theatrical release on 4 September 2026. With a clean U certificate, it is positioned for a relatively wide audience while still delivering the tension promised by its trailer. GV Prakash Kumar and Kayadu Lohar form the emotional and narrative centre of a story that begins with a simple search for a roommate and evolves into something far more unsettling.

The trailer succeeds in establishing atmosphere, central conflict, and curiosity without over-explaining. Mahi’s growing attachment to Sindhu and the strange events surrounding their shared flat create a clear dramatic engine. Whether the film ultimately leans more toward psychological horror, supernatural threat, or a blend of both will be revealed in theatres.

For now, Immortal stands as a promising entry in the horror-thriller space, powered by a strong lead pair, Sam CS’s music, and a director focused on turning an everyday living arrangement into a source of mounting fear. On 4 September, audiences will step into the flat with Mahi and discover what Sindhu already seems to know.
